The Problem With Our Schools
Schools have often felt the pressure to adhere to every single responsibility for their students, such as coordinating houses for homeless students, home-visiting programs, teaching children awareness of drug epidemics, gun violence, rape, and many other responsibilities that have been pushed onto schools instead of the parents of students. At the end of the day, the purpose of schools is to provide a safe place for children to learn. Marginalized students are students that have been labeled, left out, discriminated against, or placed in a group because of their differences. The achievement gap comes from the fact that they lack the opportunity to "fit in" because of racism, sexism, or other forms of discrimination that occur in school, therefore this children are not given the same opportunities as their classmates who don't face the same discrimination.
